Book Reviews

This is where I list books that I’ve read. The idea is to provide a good list for people who are interested in cross-domain, multi-subject reading and an easy way to buy a physical or e-book (note: all of these links are generated through my Amazon affiliate account so I do receive monetary compensation if you buy through this list). My reviews are in no way influenced by any relationship I may have to the author. I also publish my reviews on Amazon and Goodreads when I can.

The Age of Context

The Age of Context

There are five converging forces that promise to change virtually every aspect of our lives: social, mobile, data, sensors and location-based technology. Together they form a new generation of personalized technology that knows us better than our closest friends and ushers in a new Age of Context. In this new era, our devices know when to wake us up early because it snowed last night; they contact the people we are supposed to meet with to warn them we’re running late. They even find content worth watching on television. They also promise to cure cancer and make it harder for terrorists to do their damage. This book explores those five forces using interviews from more than a hundred pioneers and examination of hundreds of "context" products as well as tackling the tough question: what does it all mean for privacy?

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking

In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.
